New weights room attracts new users

One of Gwynedd Council’s leisure centres can boast of a brand new resource with the opening of a new weights room at Dwyfor Leisure Centre, Pwllheli.

Following demand for a new weights room by many of the centre’s members, the Council has invested £50,000 to transform part of the first floor into a weights room, which includes state of the art training equipment.

The new room consists of Technogym Plate-Loaded Weight Equipment, Olympic Bench, Half Rack, Dual Adjustable Pulley and a variety of free weights and benches. The equipment is suitable for anyone 16 or over, who wish to use the latest fitness equipment.

Councilor Roy Owen, Gwynedd Council portfolio holder with responsibility for leisure, said:

“I’m delighted that the Council has been able to invest in this important and popular service. The new room includes the latest weight lifting equipment and machines which offer great facilities to the whole area.

“We all know that keeping fit and active is key to a healthy and happy life and I hope these improvements at the Dwyfor Leisure Centre will encourage more people to use the facilities we have on-offer.”

Carys Ferris, who works for Gwynedd Council as Dwyfor Leisure Centre Manager, added:

“The intention is to target new and different customers. In the past some of the leisure centre’s customers have left once they reach a certain standard of weight lifting, and joined another gym where they could use heavier weights. We hope to target different clubs, such as the rugby club, the boxing club and the football club.

“Qualified staff members are always on-hand to help and offer support to our customers. Induction sessions will be available for everyone who wishes to use the new room.”

The new weights room at Dwyfor Leisure Centre, Pwllheli is open every day. For more information and to discuss the various fitness packages which start from £16 a month, phone the centre on 01758 613437.
