There will be a party atmosphere in the city centre this New Year’s Eve with Calennig celebrations taking place around the Civic Centre.
From 9.30 until 12.20am there will be free music from DJ Jason Harrold.
A family funfair will run from 12noon until 1am on New Year’s Eve. The fair will also run on New Years Day between 2pm and 8pm.
The magic of Cardiff’s Flybe Winter Wonderland will also be open for people to skate in the new year, set against the historic backdrop of City Hall.
If all this wasn’t enough of a treat, the Council will also be providing a free New Year’s Eve Bus Service to get you in and out of the city centre safely. There will be a number of services running across the city. Service details can be found on www.christmasincardiff.com
The New Year celebrations will end with a firework finale to welcome in 2014, Due to the firework display at midnight, there may be a short delay on city centre roads including Boulevard De Nantes and North Road.
2014 also marks the start of Cardiff being the European Capital of Sport in 2014. The year looks looks set to be a show-stopper for sport in Cardiff, with a huge number of national and international events such as UEFA Super Cup and International Cricket all being staged in the capital. While local communities will also stage events and new schemes to boost sports participation and give everyone a chance to be involved in this momentous year for the city.
Cabinet Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Ramesh Patel, said: “A party atmosphere is guaranteed once again in the city centre, with music to put everyone in the festive mood. I am delighted that we are also able to provide the free New Year bus service for residents and visitors.
“This year’s celebrations will also mark the fact that 2014 will see Cardiff be the European Capital of Sport. This is a huge achievement for Cardiff and right at the start of the year we want to celebrate this award in style.”
