A leading international organist from New York will be trying out the new organ at Llandaff Cathedral this weekend.
John Scott, from St Thomas’s Church, Fifth Av. New York, will give a recital on Saturday evening to help raise money for the on-going £1.5m organ appeal.
Born in Wakefield, Yorkshire, John began his musical career as a chorister at Wakefield Cathedral where he also learned to play the organ. He went on to be an organ scholar at St John’s College, Cambridge and in 1990, Organist and Director of Music at St. Paul’s, London. He was appointed a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order in 2004, the year in which he also took up the post in New York.
Llandaff Cathedral organist, Richard Moorhouse said, “I am delighted to be able to welcome John Scott to Llandaff Cathedral. I had the privilege of working with him for nine years at St. Paul’s and he is, without doubt, one of the world’s great organist.”
The recital starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £10.
