Newport County going to Bath

Newport CountyA large travelling support is expected on Saturday as Newport County travel to Twerton Park to face Bath City.

The Blue Square South leaders will look to extend their wonderful season against a side currently lying tenth in the table but who have claimed five home victories thus far – only two fewer than the Exiles.

Supporters will be relishing the relatively short trip to Bath and regulars on the road will take respite after recent forays to the south-east of the country.

Manager Dean Holdsworth will be hoping the curse of the manager-of-the-month award does not strike; he scooped the prize for November after leading County to four victories in league and cup, he commented: “We are still pushing for excellence in everything we do, but we know we can still play even better.”

The game is set to be played in front of what could be the largest Blue Square South attendance of the season, and the fixture will not be without a few personal affairs as four ex-Bath players will line up for County, and two former Exiles men will be in the Bath team.

In addition, Holdsworth says his side will be stirred up by the comment made by Bath City midfielder Lewis Hogg, who claimed “I don’t think there is anyone better than us in our league when we are at it.” Holdsworth will be out to ensure his side proves why they are clear at the top of the table and will need no extra motivation for what is set to be a crunch encounter at Twerton Park.
