Food and drink businesses joined Newport City Council and Newport Unlimited at the launch of this year’s Food Festival.
Last year’s inaugural event was a triumph with thousands of people visiting the city centre for the main Saturday event.
As well as producer stalls, there were chef demonstrations, street entertainers and competitions held in and around Newport Market and The Riverfront.
The success of last year’s event prompted interest in the Newport Food Festival 2012 which takes place on Saturday 6 October. A number of food businesses have already booked their places while other applications are being received by the council.
The launch event in Newport Market was an opportunity for those who run the city’s food and drink businesses to find out about the plans for this year’s festival as well as to explore ideas around creating a food network for Newport.
Chief Executive of Newport Unlimited, Gareth Beer said: “Food and leisure are important sectors for the city, which is why we are, once again, sponsoring the Newport Food Festival in 2012.
“We have been working in partnership with Newport City Council on plans for the transformation of Newport’s historic indoor market and the Market Quarter area that surrounds it. These investments form a key part of our wider strategic regeneration programme that is designed to bring vibrancy back into the heart of the city centre.”
