Newtown Councillor Welcomes ‘Dream Topping’ for Newtown’s Market Street

Cllr Richard White, County Councillor for Newtown East (which includes the town centre) has today welcomed the announcement that a special surface dressing will be applied to Market Street in Newtown to help improve the appearance of the town centre.

Cllr White, who is also a Town Councillor, said “Eighteen months ago I pressed for Market Street to be resurfaced urgently because the existing cobbles were in a very poor state of repair and the businesses in the street were getting flooded when there was heavy rainfall.

“The cost of new cobbles in these difficult financial times could not be justified and a surface dressing is a cheaper alternative which will look just as good.”

The surface dressing is part of a series of improvements to the town centre streetscape which will include Victorian street lighting, more seats, and improved signage to make Newtown’s town centre a more attractive place for both residents and visitors to shop in.
