No Bank Holiday for RNLI crew

The Aberystwyth RNLI lifeboat carried out two service calls over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

On Saturday, May 1 at 10.30am, while the RNLI lifeboat was escorting rowing boats into Aberystwyth harbour at the end of the Celtic Challenge from Arklow in Ireland, the crew were informed from Milford Haven Coastguard that the 27-foot yacht Miss Me with three persons on board was in difficulties off Wallog, four miles north of Aberystwyth.

The yacht had been making its way towards Aberystwyth harbour under power, when it suffered engine failure and started to drift.

The RNLI lifeboat found the casualty within a few minutes and towed it back to Aberystwyth harbour.

Also on Monday May 3 the lifeboat was launched at 12.55pm to assist the 28-foot fishing boat Wendy Jane that had suffered a mechanical failure as it was entering the harbour.

The RNLI lifeboat towed the boat back out to sea to give more room for manoeuvring then towing it back to its berth in the harbour.
