Swansea’s Wales National Pool is offering hope to local surfers enduring the frustrations of a flat spell.
The venue has launched a new class designed to help wave junkies improve their technique, maintain their fitness and have fun- even when sea conditions aren’t favourable.
The No Swell, No Excuses Surf Fitness sessions have started running on a Thursday evening from 8pm till 9pm.
Surfer Ben Room, originally from Dorset, is the session instructor.
He said: “I’ve always aimed to put fitness into a fun session so these classes are aimed at getting people fit in a mildly competitive environment with little games and that sort of thing.”
Concessions are available for Wales National Pool members.
Ben, who is also a trained kite-boarding instructor, qualified lifeguard and assistant swimming coach, said the sessions include water safety apects and are suitable for any kind of water sports fan as well as surfers.
Ben said: “I’ve been surfing for twelve years. After studying Water and Adventure Sports Management in Swansea I spent time working in Greece and the Caribbean before coming back here. Yes, Dorset’s a nice part of the world but there’s only surf there about three times a year.”
