News that the Holyhead to Cardiff express train services will now stop at Colwyn Bay has been hailed as a victory by campaigners.
It has been confirmed that all North-South express train services, including a recently announced second daily service will now stop in Colwyn Bay, which is the largest population centre on the North Wales coast.
Initial Welsh Assembly Government plans failed to include stops in Colwyn Bay for either service. The new timetables are expected to be effective from May.
Commenting on the announcement, Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar said:
“I’m pleased that the Deputy First Minister has finally listened to my calls for the train service to call at Colwyn Bay.
“It was ridiculous that the town was overlooked in planning the service previously.
“It’s great news that the Minister has bowed to pressure as a result of the campaign.
“The announcement is very welcome news for anyone travelling between Colwyn Bay and the Welsh capital.”
