Libraries across north Wales have held an exciting campaign to draw the public’s attention to the wide range of books that are available to lend for free in the area’s council-run libraries.
For the third consecutive year, north Wales’ libraries have carried out the Pure Gold campaign in partnership with Further Education and Higher Education colleges.
Librarians from Estyn Allan y Gogledd (the reader development network) chose twelve books – six in Welsh and six in English, with the authors of the most frequently borrowed books over a period of three months winning a Pure Gold trophy.
The triumphal books for 2010 are Hi a Fi by Eigra Lewis Roberts and Back Home by Bethan Darwin.
Councillor Alwyn Gruffydd, Gwynedd Council’s Customer Care Portfolio Leader who leads on libraries said:
“Our libraries offer a variety of different services that cater to everyone’s reading tastes.
“A recent survey showed that Gwynedd’s libraries were extremely busy over the last few months and schemes like Pure Gold are an ideal way of promoting the services on offer in our libraries, as well as acknowledging the popularity of local writers such as Eigra Lewis Roberts.”
