An appeal has gone out to runners across North Wales to join the team supporting a leading local children’s charity on a scenic run through some of North Wales’s most stunning countryside.
Self-storage company Lock Stock, who have sites across North Wales and the border counties, are sponsoring the first ever Llangollen 10K this month and they are urging entrants to raise money for Hope House & Ty Gobaith, a charity that cares for children with serious conditions, who aren’t expected to live longer than early adulthood.
The event will see up to 350 runners follow a course along the Dee Valley alongside the Llangollen Canal towards Trevor and back and takes place on Sunday, May 22.
Nick Powell, Director of Lock Stock, the UK’s fastest-growing self-storage company, said: “This is a fantastic event through one of the most beautiful parts of Wales and I’m sure it will attract lots of entries and we’re delighted to support it.
“We’re also hoping any runners not already committed would consider running in aid of Hope House/TyGobaith which is a really wonderful charity which does tremendous work across North Wales with children and their families bravely facing up to a real life sentence.”
Eluned Yaxley, Area Fund-raiser for Hope House, and a runner herself, said: “This is the second year we’ve encouraged people to run for us and we’re delighted at the support we’ve received from Lock Stock and Bespoke Fitness.
“We would like to have a really strong team there on our behalf because we depend entirely on donations for the £100,000 a week we need to maintain the service we provide.
“Events like this are vital for us – indeed, we had a brilliant contingent at the London Marathon this year. We provide a range of services for ranging from specialist nursing to counselling and support and we’ve been going for 21 years now and we want to be here for another 21 and beyond.”
Lock Stock, a family-run company which operates 16 self-storage sites with over 2,000 shipping containers for customers across North and Mid Wales and the borders, from Bangor to Shrewsbury, have backed a series of fun runs across North Wales this year.
The Llangollen 10K is the latest in this series which has been organised by Vale of Clwyd-based Bespoke Fitness who have already got Denbighshire running with a string of popular events including Ruthin 5 and 10Ks, a Denbighshire 5K, Denbighshire 10K, Denbighshire 1 mile Kids Race, all backed by Lock Stock.
Ffion White, who runs Bespoke Fitness with business partner Paul Edwards, said: “We think this must be just about the most beautiful 10K run in the UK, and it attracts a lot of runners from Denbighshire, but we’ve also had lots of runners apply from Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Wrexham areas.
“It’s off road and the route is undulating yet quick but most of all it is incredibly stunning, following the famous Llangollen Canal along a beautiful course with stunning scenery and it’s perfect for all abilities.
“We’ve reserved places for runners for Hope House/Ty Gobaith and we’ll be delighted to get as many entries for them as we can.
“They’re a wonderful charity and one we’re happy to support and we’re also nvery grateful to Lock Stock for backing the series of events we’ve organised and which just keep getting more and more popular.”
The Llangollen 10K starts at 9.30am on Sunday, May 22, from Tower Fields, Llangollen, enter online on the Bespoke Fitness website, http://bespokefitnessandevents.co.uk/running-events/ entry is £12, £10 for members of a club.
