The winner of the Nos Galan Poster Competition, organised by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, was Dafydd Extance, of Caegarw, Mountain Ash.
His winning entry depicted an image of legendary runner Guto Nyth Bran running down the mountainside from Llanwonno to Mountain Ash town centre on New Year’s Eve.
The Nos Galan judging panel said Dafydd’s entry captured the true spirit of the event and his poster featured in the official Nos Galan programme.
Dafydd, a pupil at Caegarw Primary School in Mountain Ash, was presented with a framed copy of his award-winning design, along with a £50 cheque for his school.
The Nos Galan Poster Competition runners-up were Corban Lewis Evans and Ryan Bennett, both of Our Lady’s RC School in Mountain Ash.
Cllr Andrew Morgan, of the Nos Galan committee and Ward Member for Mountain Ash West, said: “Nos Galan 2011 was once again a massive success and my special thanks go to everyone who competed, the spectators, the volunteers and of course to our two Nos Galan Mystery Runners Shane Williams and Ian Evans.”
Nos Galan 2011 was once again being supported by The Valleys Heart and Soul initiative, which aims to raise awareness of the region as a tourist destination, bringing communities closer together and helping to restore pride and passion into the area.
