Corwen Pavilion has been closed as a precautionary measure after a leak was found in a heating duct which may contain an asbestos seal. All bookings have been cancelled and there will be no entry into the building until further investigations have been carried out and a course of action agreed.
The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 state that we have a duty to identify where asbestos is in any of our buildings and put robust systems in place to either manage it or remove it. Denbighshire has a management process for asbestos in place and we are working through this process in accordance with the regulations to limit the impact of the closure.
Denbighshire’s Head of Leisure and Youth Service, Jamie Groves, said: “This is disappointing news.
“We have been actively working with the Corwen Pavilion Users Forum to try and find ways of improving facilities and looking at both short and longer term options for the site.
“We will keep Corwen residents informed of the situation as it progresses.”
