The annual Road Safety Quiz Final organised by Neath Port Talbot’s Road Safety Unit, in conjunction with South Wales Police has once again been a resounding success.
Fifteen Primary Schools secured their place in the 15th Road Safety quiz, after battling their way through one of the most competitive preliminary rounds in the quiz’s history, which was attended by fifty schools from across the County Borough. This event was once again hosted by the Apollo Cinema in Port Talbot.
In the final stage tension and excitement was mounting as the teams battled it out over five rounds, four on road safety and one observational round. Whilst all the scores were being verified all the pupils were treated to popcorn and drinks whilst watching the trailers for this year’s releases.
The standard was extremely high with Blaengwrach Primary School winning the overall event with a massive 97 out of 100. Runner up position was taken by Groes Primary School. Every pupil received certificates for participating whilst Blaengwrach Primary School had the pleasure of taking the School’s winning trophy back to their school for the next year.
The Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Councillor Ali Thomas said today, “We are once again delighted by the support from our teaching staff to this important initiative. The enthusiasm of the children and the knowledge gained in Road Safety is an important lesson that will stay with them for life. My congratulations go to both Blaengwrach and Groes Primary Schools as well as all the other schools that entered. The 2011 Quiz was an extremely enjoyable and beneficial event for all. I would also like to convey my thanks to the Apollo Cinema for donating the use of their cinema and South Wales Police for their continued support.”
