Nursery Invites Community to Open Day

A Cardiff nursery unit is throwing open its doors this week to welcome prospective parents and members of the community.

Greenway Primary School in Rumney is holding an open day for the nursery unit on Thursday, July 8 having undergone a major refurbishment programme to upgrade the school’s facilities.

As part of the Council’s schools organisation plan, Greenway Primary School has received major investment to expand integrated children’s facilities based around the planned Flying Start childcare provision.  The school has been internally reorganised and refurbished to accommodate these facilities with the infant accommodation now boasting much improved reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classrooms and outdoor learning areas, while improvements to the junior block are due to be completed shortly. The refurbishment was part supported by WAG Flying Start funding.

Flying Start is already operating some services on the site but childcare will be open in September in the former nursery unit. Further accommodation is also available for community activities which will be developed to reflect the needs and wishes of the local community.

The open day will take place from 10am to 11.30am and 1.30pm to 3pm on Thursday.

Executive Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, Cllr Freda Salway, said: ”We are committed to significantly improving schools’ provision throughout the city and making considerable investments to ensure we have an education system that is fit for the 21st Century.

“Integrated Children’s Centres provide high quality early years education, childcare support services to children and their families, support for children with special needs and provision of adult education, parenting support and community education teams. This is a wonderful addition to Greenway Primary School and a real asset to the community. I hope visitors to the school are as impressed with the facilities there as I am.”

Greenway headteacher, Geraldine Foley, said: “This is a chance for the community to come in and have a look at the wonderful new facilities that we are very proud of. Visitors will be able to have a look around and see the children at work.”
