Chris O’Brien, Welsh Conservative candidate for Merthyr Tydfil & Rhymney, has called on the Assembly Government to do all it can to help workers and their families affected after furniture company Triumph announced the shedding of one third of its workforce across South Wales.
Triumph, which has a site in Merthyr Tydfil, has gone into administration and has announced the redundancy of 110 people across the company.
Following the announcement, Chris said: “This is really disappointing news and clearly a major blow to the Welsh economy.
“It is devastating for the workers involved and their families.
“It is imperative that the Assembly Government works closely with the company and helps those facing job losses.
“The news acts as another worrying indicator of the challenging times facing Wales’ economy.
“We need a clearer strategy for economic growth and new stewardship of the Welsh economy.
“Welsh Conservatives want to see business flourish all across Wales. We will abolish business rates for the majority of small businesses.
“We will also launch enterprise zones to give our economy a real boost. Within these areas, businesses can benefit from full business rates relief and lighter touch regulation”.
