Officers in Bridgend, issue traders operating within the County Borough with a stark warning following two recent licensing hearings which resulted in revocation of the licence of the Noble House Takeaway, Pencoed where the licence holder had been employing Chinese migrants who had unlawfully entered the UK.
The landlord of the Bird in Hand, Maesteg has also received the largest ever financial penalty for selling alcohol after hours.
Community Safety Inspector Ralph Harris said:
“It is regretful that applications for establishments to cease trading have to be made.
“However it is evidence that the welfare and safety of, customers, neighbouring businesses, and the general public will always come first.
“We operate a system in Bridgend where licensees are given every opportunity to make changes to the way they run their business.
“A range of criminal activity had been linked to the Noble House, Takeaway in Pencoed, which has consequently had its license revoked.
“In the case of the bird in hand, serving alcohol after hours has been linked ongoing reports of violence and antisocial behaviour which unfortunately spills out onto our streets.
The Landlord received the highest financial penalty handed down since the introduction of the Licensing ACT in 2005 receiving a total of £2,390 in fines. A number of additional conditions have also been placed on trading and include:
- A six week license suspension.
- A reduction in hours of trade.
- Six door staff to be employed.
“I do hope that other licensees will sit up and take notice. We aren’t afraid to review and ultimately seek revocation of licenses when our expectations for their businesses are not met. ”
