Monmouthshire pensioners on low incomes may be eligible for extra help with paying council tax thanks to grant funding of over £100k given to Monmouthshire County Council (MCC).
The Welsh Assembly Government has given a grant of £107.452 to MCC to offer assistance to people over the age of 65 in need of help. An additional £5,000 has been given to the council meet the administrative costs of the scheme.
In Monmouthshire, those residents who qualify must be over 65 on 1st June 2010 and be in receipt of council tax benefit on 1st June 2010 (but not 100% benefit). There is only one payment per household
Those who qualify for this additional assistance will be notified by the council in early October. It does not reduce the amount of council tax benefit which they have already been given.
