He may be training for the much anticipated 2012 Olympic Games in London, but that hasn’t stopped Olympic silver medallist David Davies from training six S4C presenters for a new series to be broadcast in June.
Stwnsh y Gemau follows Geraint Hardy, Tudur Phillips, Owain Gwynedd, Lois Cernyw, Eleri Griffiths and Anni Llŷn as they compete against each other in a series of events, including rowing, athletics, wrestling, swimming and cycling.
Ahead of the big race between the boys and the girls, Davies gave the six some much-needed advice on their swimming techniques at Cardiff’s International Pool. He also raced against the Stwnsh presenters – leaving them trailing in his wake.
David Davies, from Barry, won the silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics for the new open-water 10K race. He also won bronze in the 1,500m event at the 2004 Olympics in Greece. Davies is also a Commonwealth Games gold medallist having won the 1,500m freestyle in 2006.
Stwnsh is S4C’s strand for 7–13 year olds and is broadcast between 16:00 and 18:00 every weekday and from 09:00 on Saturdays.
