The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) has announced the route for the Olympic Torch Relay, revealing that every local authority in Wales will host the flame.
The torch will arrive in Monmouthshire on 25th May, travel through South and West Wales and across North Wales, leaving Welshpool on 30th May.
Cllr Dyfed Edwards (Gwynedd), WLGA spokesperson for Leisure and Tourism welcomed the announcement, saying:
“Having the Olympic Torch Relay pass through every local authority area in Wales is a great start to the Olympic Games 2012. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for communities and individuals to share in the Olympic spirit and get together to mark the countdown to the start of the games.”
“Organising the celebrations to welcome the torch will be no small task for councils and will involve liasing with schools, sports clubs, businesses and the emergency services to ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible. But its work councils are happy to take on to bring their communities together for this exciting occasion.”
