A host of local businesses have seized the opportunity to enter teams into the Caerphilly 10k this year, in the hope of winning the coveted “Caerphilly 10k Team Challenge Trophy”.
For the second annual race, Caerphilly County Borough Council announced a Corporate/Community Team Challenge. Teams of between 4 and 6 runners from local companies or community groups have the chance to race for the coveted Team Challenge Trophy and received training T-Shirts and flannels to wear and use during their training and on the event.
5 South Wales companies have entered teams with local business PHS Group, based on Western Industrial Estate in Caerphilly, entering two teams of 6 people! Employees from the companies headquarters, aged between 28 and 47, have banded together to support each other throughout their training and during the race.
Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, commented, “It is fantastic that so many of our local businesses have seized the chance to take part in the Caerphilly 10k. It is an event which encourages everyone in the county borough to get involved promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. Even those who are unable to take part can come along to Crescent Road on the day to try out a number of different sports set up in a Commonwealth themed Sport Park! There is quite literally something for everyone, with a climbing wall, spinning bikes, football, tennis and quizzes going on throughout the morning for families and spectators to enjoy.”
Ross McMeeking who works for PHS Group commented, “PHS Group are one of the largest employers in Caerphilly and we’re thrilled this year to be entering two teams in the 10k challenge. It’s a wonderful opportunity for local people to participate in a fun and healthy event, and with such an amazing scenic start and finish line too! We would like to wish everyone good luck and we’ll see them at the finishing line.”
Also taking part is local law firm Glamorgan Law, who have offices based on Cardiff Road in the town centre. The company has entered a corporate team of 5 runners, while another 3 employees will also be running the race as individuals. Partner in the Caerphilly office of Glamorgan law Michael Downey said. “Our offices here in Caerphilly have been serving the community in Caerphilly for decades and therefore for members of the firm to participate in the run, which passes close by our office, seems too good an opportunity to miss as well also assisting in the raising of monies for good local causes .’
The fastest four participant’s times for each team will be calculated to determine the winner of the Caerphilly 10k Team Challenge Trophy.
The Caerphilly 10k takes place on Sunday 22nd June, with over 1700 people already signed up to take part. There is still time to enter, with online entries closing at midnight on Thursday 19th June. To enter visit your.caerphilly.gov.uk/10k.
