The Oriel Pendeitsh gallery in Caernarfon is currently exhibiting a wealth of artwork by tens of different artists (44 works by 39 artists). Go along to have a look – entry is free.
Following the 2010 Open Art competition, where well over 200 works were presented, a unique exhibition of some of the artwork is being held at Oriel Pendeitsh from now until 20 June. This follows a recent exhibition held at the Gwynedd Museum and Art gallery, Bangor.
This is the fifteenth successive year for the competition to be held, giving a fantastic opportunity to showcase artwork which includes paintings, drawings, photography and some sculpture. This is the first time for an exhibition of the work to be held at Oriel Pendeitsh.
Delyth Gordon, Gwynedd Council Visual Arts Officer said: “We are delighted that we have been able to host part of the Open Art exhibition at Oriel Pendeitsh this year. The exhibition is a great opportunity for some of the artists that were at Bangor to present their work again and showcase the variety and standard that the Open Art attracts. Members of the public are welcome to come along and enjoy the work.”
A panel of selectors decided on the final exhibition from over 240 entries. This year the selectors’ prize went to Isobel Crawford from Colwyn Bay with her atmospheric archival digital print entitled ‘It Wasn’t Always Like This’.
Other works awarded recognition of Highly Commended were ‘Sea Dream 3’ a chalk and pastel work by Susan Gathercole, ‘Charlotte’s Shell (Shelf Life)’ an oil painting by Pam Green, ‘Sir Benfro’ a mixed media work by Marian Jones, ‘Lower Braich Gallery’ an acrylic and ink painting by Arfon Jones, ‘Bethesda Shops’ a pair of oil paintings by Martin Morley and ‘Little Dancer aged 84’ a sculpture by Wendy Mayer. At the end of the exhibition in Bangor this year’s ‘People’s Choice’, selected by public vote, was awarded to Wendy Mayer.
Those interested in submitting work for selection in 2011 Open Art can leave their details at the Gwynedd Museum & Art Gallery, Bangor.
The exhibition at Oriel Pendeitsh, Caernarfon is open until 20 June. The gallery is open daily, 7 days between 10am and 4pm. Admission is free.
