‘Open Doors’ is proving to be as popular as ever with many walks and tours booking up fast.
This coming weekend (3 and 4 September), the focus for this free annual heritage event is Bodelwyddan, St Asaph and Rhuddlan. A new weekend that includes the following sites and events:
Bodelwyddan Castle has a series of tours that you can pre-book. There are only a few places left on the British Watercolours, Garden and Woodlands and the Paranormal tours. On Saturday the World War 1 practice trenches tour is fully booked but there are a few places left on Sunday. Casual visitors to the Castle will be charged an entry fee.
At Marble Church in Bodelwyddan, there are tours of the church and the Canadian graves. You do not need to pre-book these and the tours are at 12 noon and 1pm on Saturday, or 1pm and 2pm on Sunday.
At St Asaph there are tours of the Cathedral at 11am and 3pm on Saturday and 2pm and 4pm on Sunday – you will need to pre-book to attend the tour.
In Rhuddlan, St Mary’s Church and Rhuddlan Castle are also opening their doors. The Castle has free guided tours taking place throughout the weekend and St Mary’s Church has exhibitions of arts and craft. They also have old photos and maps of Rhuddlan that have been supplied by Rhuddlan Local History Society.
Every weekend in September is dedicated to an Open Doors event including Denbigh (10 and 11 September), Llangollen (17 and 18 September) and Ruthin (24 and 25 September). For more details visit the website www.opendoorsdenbighshire.org.uk
