Open Doors Denbighshire – Ruthin

Following a successful month of Open Doors weekends, the final one will be in Ruthin on 24 and 25 September.

The event is completely free, and many walks and tours are now fully booked, but there is still plenty to do:

There are places available on the Craft and Industry of Ruthin tours including Paul Delrue Bookbinding and Patchwork Traditional Food Company – pre-booking is required.

Education in Ruthin is a new tour about the historic setting of the schools and their relevance to life in Ruthin – pre-booking is required.

On Saturday you can join tours of Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, park and meet at the Village Hall car park, and The Archaeology of Ruthin tour with County Archaeologist Fiona Gale – both tours can be pre-booked at the library.

On Sunday you can visit Hengoed in Bontuchel, a 15th century cruck hall house and barns, or tours of the medieval remains of Ruthin Castle – please pre-book at the library.

Other things you can see are chapels and churches in Ruthin and Llanfwrog – Capel Bathafarn in Ruthin has recently undergone some maintenance work and there is still some scaffolding in place, but it is open so please take a look.  At St Peter’s Church there will be an arts and crafts fair where you can purchase some local work.

On Friday 23 September at 7pm (for 7.30 start), Alun Ffred Jones AM will be giving the annual lecture – ‘The Stories on our Streets’ at Capel Pendref.

On Saturday and Sunday, there will be free parking in County Hall staff car park.  The car park is on Station Road, next to the Co-op.
