The Open Doors Denbighshire group met in November to discuss the feedback from the 2009 heritage open days in Denbigh, Llangollen and Ruthin during September.
The event was the biggest and most successful so far with many sites seeing an increase in visitor numbers and all of the new and popular tours being fully booked or over subscribed.
Open Doors in Denbighshire is one of the biggest celebrations of architecture and heritage in Wales with more sites and associated events to improve the visitor experience than in any other area. It is seen as a flagship event that the Civic Trust for Wales would like to see repeated throughout Wales.
Positive comments have been received from visitors particularly relating to walk leaders and owners of historical buildings. These people volunteer their time to open their private homes or to take groups of visitors on tours of the town’s history. Without their help the event would not be as successful as it is.
Some comments about the walks and tours:
“Absolutely excellent tours. Well done everyone”.
“The walks were interesting and appreciated the chance to visit them. Thanks”
“All guides were informative and enjoyable, learnt a lot about the town and its history. Thank you.”
“Super properties, lovely owners all round. Five star.”
The Open Doors Denbighshire group would like to thank all involved in making the heritage open days a huge success.
The dates for next year’s events have already been confirmed as follows:
Denbigh 11 & 12, Llangollen 18 & 19 and Ruthin 25 & 26 September 2010.
Open Doors is coordinated in Wales by the Civic Trust for Wales. In Denbighshire the events are coordinated by Denbigh Civic Society, Llangollen Civic Society and Ruthin and District Civic Association in partnership with Denbighshire County Council – forming the Open Doors Denbighshire group.
European Heritage Days are an initiative of the Council for Europe and take place throughout the UK and Europe each September.
