Opening of Deeside Leisure Centre’s new health and fitness facilities

Looking to get into shape this summer, fit into your favourite pair of jeans or simply enjoy some free time with friends? Later this month, North Wales’ flagship leisure centre unveils its state of the art health and fitness facilities.

Having undergone considerable redevelopment, Deeside Leisure Centre will soon boast an 80 station fitness suite, two fitness studios, a toning studio and brand new changing rooms.

Keen to attract local residents of all ages and fitness abilities, Flintshire County Council is investing over £5 million into Deeside Leisure Centre. This summer’s opening follows the first phase of the redevelopment project which created six 5-a-side floodlit football pitches, catering for both adult and junior football.

The final phase of the scheme will see the January 2012 opening of the first Welsh public day spa, a soft play area for children and an indoor extreme sporting arena with a high ropes course and skate park for scooters, inline skates and BMX bikes.

Cllr Dennis Hutchinson, Executive Member for Leisure and Public Protection at Flintshire County Council, says: “Our aim is to encourage more people to take part in regular sport and physical activity to ensure wide ranging health and social benefits throughout Flintshire. People are in for a real treat this month; our new facilities are welcoming, inspiring and a pleasure to visit.”

Despite the current financial climate affecting local authorities, the Council has worked hard to inspire its local community with future proof leisure provision. “In these difficult financial times, when all the talk is of public sector budget cuts, partnering with a private sector company has allowed us to make facility and service improvements for the benefit of our community,” confirms Councillor Hutchinson.

Be sure to visit Deeside Leisure Centre’s new health and fitness facilities for a welcome tour and taste of what’s on offer.
