Opinions win prizes, as young people who aired their views at the successful It’s All About YOUth day found out this week.
Those who submitted feedback on how they felt the day went were automatically entered into a draw to win prizes such as tickets to shows and rugby and football memorabilia.
The winners were announced this week, after the results were drawn by Cllr Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning and Mike Keating, Service Director for Education and Lifelong Learning.
The winners were:
Lewys Ryan of Llantrisant Primary School, who won tickets to Hairspray at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff.
Paige Cridland and Paul Abbruzzese of Pontypridd High School who won Cardiff City footballs and memorabilia
Ashley Tucker of Coleg Morgannwg, Daniel Kitchman of Ysgol Hen Felin and Lauren Newton of Pencoed Comprehensive, who won two signed tickets for a tour of the Millennium Stadium and two signed posters of the WRU team.
R Blackey of Treorchy Comprehensive, Sean Dovey of Penygawsi Primary, Calum Morgan of YGG Llanhari and Dean Jenkins of Ysgol Hen Felinm who won signed posters of the WRU team.
Hundreds of young people from across the county borough passed through the It’s All About YOUth event, which was held at the Glamorgan Business Centre at the University of Glamorgan last month.
The event was organised as a showcase for all the services on offer for young people in RCT, from social, leisure and sporting activities to careers and personal advice, staying safe, counselling and getting involved in the local community and democracy.
Each of the interactive displays at It’s All About YOUth were based on issues that young people had identified as being of interest of or concern to them via the Extending Entitlement survey, which was carried out among 8000 young people at 18 secondary schools.
Cllr Eudine Hanagan said after the draw: “It’s All About YOUth was a huge success, and we know that from the feedback that was supplied by those who attended. The huge majority of those who attended said they found the day very useful and many said they would not have changed a thing about it.
“We are so grateful to the young people for providing us with their honest opinion of the day, how it went and how it met their needs, which is why we held a prize draw to award some of those who took part in the feedback.
“We will now use all the feedback from the day, as well as the Extending Entitlement survey results, to continue delivering services, interventions and events that are based on what young people have told us they need and want.”
