Outstanding Progress for Haverfordwest V C School

The recent Estyn Inspection of Haverfordwest VC School reports that it is a good school with many outstanding features, and that the school has made outstanding progress since the last inspection, with all the previous key issues addressed successfully.

The inspection team found that the quality of teaching and standards of achievement are above the Welsh Assembly’s all-Wales targets, with 100% of teaching being judged as good or better.

The report also noted the outstanding teamwork throughout the school, the stakeholder involvement and stated that the school gives very good value for money.

Inspectors found pupils are well cared for, guided and supported and that the school has extensive arrangements to ensure pupils’ well being. It also reported on the positive policy of inclusion.

They said the school provides high quality personal support and guidance and that effective working partnerships contribute to the high standard of behaviour.  The report also noted that the school has very high expectations of all pupils and that the arrangements made to ensure that the curriculum is appropriate to pupils of all aptitudes and abilities constitute an outstanding feature of the school’s provision.

The inspectors highlighted many outstanding features particularly in ICT, Design and Technology, and science, and that provision for pupils’ spiritual development is a strength of the school. The report recognised that assessment for learning is a high priority within the school and is an outstanding feature of provision, with bilingualism being a developing strength.

The report states that the headteacher shows exceptional leadership and that her contribution to the school has made an outstanding contribution since the last inspection.

It found that the pupils’ friendly attitudes were clearly evident throughout the school and that relationships between pupils and staff were judged to be outstanding.

Headteacher Mrs Michele Thomas said: “These outcomes are a reflection of the dedication and hard work of pupils, staff and governors and the strong partnerships that exist with parents and the wider community.

Haverfordwest V C School will strive to maintain the high standards and quality provision that have been identified throughout the report.”
