A packed public meeting was held last week to discuss local resident’s concerns over the future of Ysgol Betws Gwerfil Goch near Corwen.
Denbighshire County Council has launched a public consultation on the future of primary schools in the Dee Valley area. Under the proposals a number of primary schools could close, including Ysgol Betws Gwerfil Goch.
Clwyd West AM Darren Millar organised a public meeting at the school to ensure that local residents could have their say on the Council’s proposals. A representative from Denbighshire County Council and Mark Isherwood AM also attended the meeting.
Speaking after the meeting which he Chaired, Darren said:
‘The turn- out this evening shows that this school is the heart of the local community.
‘Ysgol Betws Gwerfil Goch is a fantastic school and concerned parents, teachers and governors feel passionately that it should have a long term future.
‘I’ll do everything I can to make sure that decision makers take these views into account.’
North Wales Regional AM Mark Isherwood AM said:
‘School closures are being proposed across North Wales as a result of the Labour-Plaid schools so called ‘modernisation’ programme.
‘The Assembly Government should leave good schools alone and let those who know them best – parents, teachers and governors – to make decisions about their future.’
