Tenby went ‘flipping’ crazy on Tuesday as this year’s pancake race took place in Tudor Square, in aid of Tenby’s RNLI lifeboat station.
Following the success of 2010’s pancake race, the event, named SOS Day (sweet or savory), saw entrants, armed with their own frying pans and pancakes, eager to join in the fun again this year and help raise money for the worthwhile charity by taking part in five races for all ages.
With the town’s Mayor, Julie Evans, made sure that participants were on their marks, and first up was the Under 5s race, with three-year-old Taela Thomas taking first prize.
Next to get, ready, set and go were those competing in the five to ten age group, with Bryn Davies, on holiday from Powys, coming in as the winner.
Another holidaymaker to make his mark on the seaside resort was Ben Price from Surrey who was victorious in the 11 to 14 category.
In the women’s race, Jan Davies followed in the footsteps of her son Bryn by claiming first place, while in the men’s race it was easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy for entrant Matthew who only had himself to beat in a one-man race!
Things heated up in the final race as some of Tenby’s master chefs did battle to be a world beater, with Dave Lewis, of the Hope and Anchor, battering the competition from The Bay Tree and The Buccaneer to be named champion.
The Mayor then presented the winners with their medals and prizes, kindly donated from Tesco, Morris Brothers and the Fourcroft Hotel.
Later on in the evening, a two-course pancake supper was held at Ossie Morgan’s Restaurant, at the North Beach’s Fourcroft Hotel, where guests enjoyed a true culinary treat, again in aid of the RNLI.
On Wednesday, it was revealed that the pancake race and supper had together raised £500.
