Parents of pupils at a much loved Colwyn Bay school have presented their local AM with a petition as part of their campaign to protect the school from closure.
Conwy County Borough Council are currently consulting on the future of Conway Road Infant School in Colwyn Bay and have warned that it could close by July of next year.
Clwyd West AM Darren Millar received the petition from parent Clair Davies following a recent public meeting he held at the school. Over 300 people have signed the petition, which objects to any plans which will result in closure of Conway Road Infant’s.
Darren Millar AM said:
‘The scale of the opposition from residents in Colwyn Bay to the potential closure of Conway Road Infant School comes as no surprise to me.
‘Conway Road School is a much loved school which has provided education to local people for generations.
‘It is vital that the voices of parents and residents are listened to by decision makers at the Council and the size of this petition clearly demonstrates the strength of local feeling.
‘I would encourage anyone with an interest in the future of Conway Road School to make their views known to the Council before the consultation closure date on 30th November.’
Clair Davies said:
‘I don’t want to see the school close. My son is happy there and the education is good.
‘The Council and the school governors haven’t done enough to explore alternatives to closing the school and many parents feel let down.
‘We are grateful to Darren for his support and hope that as many people as possible will back our campaign.’
