The internationally acclaimed UK contemporary circus company NoFit State in association with Neath Port Talbot Council launches the second phase of its grant funded initiative with a breathtaking free outdoor circus “Parklife” at Pontardawe Recreational Ground from 7-14th August.
Part playground and part bandstand NoFit invites the community to join in the celebration of public parks.
For 6 days NoFit will be resident in Pontardawe Recreational Ground running a programme of outdoor workshops in collaboration with local creative and sports groups and members of the public.
NoFit Circus Artistic Director Orit Azaz of Parklife said “We are particularly keen to meet creative and movement based groups of all ages and disabilities with a high level of skill and experience such as extreme sport, gymnastics, gymnastic pole dancing, ball sports, fight groups, large scale dance groups, stunt skipping, free running, stunt cycling, beat boxers, marching bands, painters and poets”
The week long residency at Pontardawe will include “happenings” in and around the park engaging park users and passers by. Open rehearsals where the public can watch the circus performers train and get an insight into how a production is put together.
Participating groups will need to attend a briefing session in advance of the Parklife event week with workshops on one of the first days at the residency which will be scheduled on 7th and 8th August. Chosen performers will also need to attend a dress rehearsal on 13th August and the public performance on the final night, Saturday 14th August.
Council Leader Ali Thomas said “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for local groups and individuals to participate in one the most prestigious free events to take place in Neath Port Talbot. This is the only performance of Parklife in Wales and we would encourage the community to take full advantage of this grant funded arts initiative to develop their group or individual creative skills alongside world class performers of the NoFit Circus.”
