Partial Brynmill Lane closure allows wall repairs

Swansea Council will soon start work to repair a major retaining wall in Brynmill.

The repairs will involve replacing a section of wall, which has been held up by structural supports for a number of years, along Brynmill Lane.

The Council has been in discussions with the residents who live above the affected wall and is now ready to start the works this month.

A section of Brynmill Lane is being closed to traffic from Monday 28 June to allow the works to be carried out safely.

The road closure will be in place for an estimated 20 weeks and will require diversions around the road closure for the duration of the works.

Since the supports have been in place, the Council has needed to introduce traffic controls and reduce the route down to one lane. Once the work is completed, two-way traffic will be reintroduced along the affected route.

Cllr John Hague, Cabinet Member for the Environment in Swansea Council, said: “I’m pleased that we’re finally in a position to improve the situation for both residents in Brynmill Lane and for motorists who use the route.

“The work involved is needed to strengthen the wall and will also give us the opportunity to reintroduce two-way traffic once the work is completed.”
