A partnership between North Wales Police, a local Housing Association and the Welsh Government is helping to make a street in Rhyl that much brighter.
North Wales Police have stepped in, along with the Welsh Government to provide match funding with Clwyd Alyn Housing Association for a range of improvements to Princes Street including additional lighting, refuse protection cages and upgrades to letterboxes.
Clwyd Alyn pledged a thousand pounds towards the work which was then matched with a thousand pounds from North Wales Police, allocated from the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) fund. The two thousand pound total was then further matched with a £2,000 grant from the Welsh Government’s North Wales Coast Regeneration Area Community Fund.
PC Les Jones who is the local Community Beat Manager said: “This again is all about partnership and working together to help improve life for everyone – those living on the street and in the area.
“The lighting in particular should make the area safer for residents as it will not only light up the front of the properties but also the street, doorway and paths.”
Over the past 14 months, police, Clwyd Alyn Housing Association who are the main landlords in the area, and Denbighshire County Council have been working together to make Princes Street a great place to live.
Many of the properties have undergone complete renovation and work is still continuing. Two CCTV cameras are located on the street and the additional lighting should also assist CCTV staff.
Councillor David Smith, Denbighshire County Council’s Cabinet Lead Member for Environment, said: “We welcome this funding announcement as the lighting will assist our CCTV staff in their efforts to monitor the streets and will give residents and those visiting Rhyl some peace of mind that every effort is being made to protect their safety whilst in the town centre.”
Carol Hooper, Senior Housing Officer for Clwyd Alyn said: “By working together we have been able to secure funding which will make a real difference to the lives of those living in the area. Princes Street is already a happier place to live and we’re really like to thank all who have contributed.”
Housing and Regeneration Minister Carl Sargeant said: “The Welsh Government’s North Wales Coast Regeneration Area Community Fund is about making a difference at a local level and the funding for Princes Street certainly does that, improving the area for residents.”
