Partnership project shares success

Taking part in a work placement can be daunting for students who are entering the world of work for the first time, but tutors from Coleg Gwent’s Ebbw Vale Campus will be helping to bridge the gap between academic life and the working environment with other colleges around the world.

Health and care staff and students at Ebbw Vale Campus will be taking part in the Leonardo Programme, which funds opportunities for UK vocational education & training organisations, staff and learners.

The two-year initiative will see staff and students visit partner countries to share teaching and learning information and expertise. The College will play host to representatives from Belgium, Finland, Germany, Spain and Sweden in October. The delegation will take part in workshops at the College’s existing Ebbw Vale Campus; visit the new Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone where Coleg Gwent students will be based from September 2012 and meet teachers from local schools.

Health & Social Care Lecturer and Project Coordinator Jane Carver said: “We’re delighted to work with the Leonardo Programme again following previous success.

“This project, looking at improving the way we prepare students for work, will enable tutors throughout Europe to learn through shared experience and best practice for the benefit of all students.”
