The Party of Wales has called for clarity after Welsh businesses were left in uncertain territory after the Westminster Government announced that businesses affected by flooding will get 100% business rate relief.
It is unclear whether the UK Government’s announcement will generate consequential funding for Wales. The Party of Wales Shadow Economy Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth has called on the UK Government to clarify the matter as a matter of urgency, to end the confusion for Welsh Businesses.
The Party of Wales Shadow Economy Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth said:
“Welsh businesses need clarity. The UK Government made a bold statement yesterday that will help businesses in England, but it has failed to tell us whether the same support will be extended to businesses in Wales.
“If the extended rate-relief offer comes from within the existing rate relief budget then Wales would be entitled to a population share of that funding. It is absolutely vital that the UK Government clarifies this so that the Welsh Government can mirror the policy for Welsh businesses.
“We know that flooding has caused devastation to many, so the Welsh Government should do all it can to offer support.”
