Children and their parents or carers are invited to bring a bucket and spade to a beach party at Beddau Library this month to mark National Bookstart Day.
Bookstart is a scheme to encourage parents and carers to enjoy books with children. This year’s activities have a summer seaside theme and parents and toddlers are invited to join the Language and Play and Talkabout Team for stories, rhymes, fun and games.
Beddau Library in Parish Road, Tynant, will host the beach party on Friday, June 11, from 10.30am-11.30am. If the weather is fine, the celebrations will take place in the park next door to the library.
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Cllr Robert Bevan, said: “This excellent scheme, run in partnership by local health boards and library authorities, helps children learn to love books from an early age. We are delighted to be able host this event to mark National Bookstart Day.”
As part of the scheme, all babies born in Rhondda Cynon Taf are entitled to receive a free Bookstart pack at their nine month health check. Please ask your health visitor or librarian for further details.
Membership of all Rhondda Cynon Taf’s libraries is free and everyone living or working within the County Borough is welcome to join. Find out more by visiting http://www.rhondda-cynon-taff.gov.uk/libraries
