“Patient care must not suffer further in ambulance changes” says Davies

Andrew_R_T_Davies100Commenting on today’s statement on the future commissioning of ambulance services in Wales, Shadow Health Minister Andrew RT Davies AM said:

“Improved patient care is integral to the commissioning and delivery of ambulance services. For far too long ambulance response times have fallen short of the Assembly Government’s own targets, and even further behind those in England or Scotland.

“I welcome the move towards more local commissioning, but am concerned about how this develops unless there is proper communication between the ambulance trust and local health boards.

“I am also pleased the minister has finally recognised the tight financial situation the ambulance trust was forced to work in. It has taken her far too long to reach this conclusion. What is vital now is for the service to be given proper support to allow it to hit Welsh targets and match those in other parts of the United Kingdom.”
