Dwayne Peel has been called into Wales’ RBS 6 Nations squad preparing for Friday night’s clash with France at the Millennium Stadium (kick-off 8.00 pm).
The Sale Sharks scrum half proved his fitness after coming through 80-minutes of rugby during Sales 19-10 defeat to Leeds Carnegie last Friday and replaces Scarlet Martin Roberts, who is released back to his region.
Peel, the 72-times capped former British & Irish Lion, has recovered from a groin problem to provide a welcome boost to the 34-man Wales squad and will now be in the selection mix ahead of tomorrow night’s (Monday) team announcement (5.00 pm).
“It was important for us to see Dwayne come through 80 minutes of rugby,” said Wales coach Warren Gatland.
“But once he proved his fitness it’s obvious that a player of his experience and talents would provide a welcome boost to any squad.”
