Even though the weather man is promising showers over the weekend, RNLI lifeguards will be ready at their posts at Pembrey from today to patrol and provide advice on the beach over the summer.
RNLI lifeguards have been busy training, preparing their equipment and passing vital fitness tests over the past few weeks to ensure that they provide the highest standard of lifesaving service to the public in Pembrey this season. All the rescue equipment is now in place at the beach, ready for the charity’s lifeguards to take to their posts today (14 May). The lifeguards will be on service at Pembrey between 10am-6pm ready to provide advice and safety cover to the public until the 4 September.
Chris Vaughan, RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor, urges people to visit the lifeguard unit and ask for their expert advice to ensure an enjoyable day on the beach this summer:
‘RNLI lifeguards are looking forward to start patrolling Pembrey beach this weekend and hope the public come along to get to know their local lifesavers. They are not only there to help save lives at sea, but can provide tips and vital advice to help beachgoers avoid any unfortunate incidences that could occur during the day.’
RNLI lifeguards ask the public to take note of the red and yellow flags, as these are the safest place to swim or bodyboard. If anyone was to get in trouble, put your hand up and shout for help and the lifeguards will rush to your assistance.
This year the RNLI and corporate partner Helly Hansen have teamed up to develop a specifically designed poncho which will be available to lifeguards on all 163 RNLI lifeguard beaches. The RNLI Poncho is a wind and waterproof layer designed to keep the lifeguards warm and dry on the worst days of the British Summer. It is a key piece of the clothing and equipment the charity provide its lifeguards in order to respond to any emergency in all weather conditions.
