Thousands of people enjoyed a sunny and fun-filled Pembrokeshire Fish Week 2010.
With more than 250 events all over the county, visitors enjoyed fresh fish and seafood, seaside fun, angling competitions, and much more.
The annual festival’s family opening day on June 26th at Milford Haven Marina was busier than ever, with many people from the county and beyond.
A new ‘Feast on Fish marquee’ with celebrity restaurateurs Mitch Tonks and Matt Tebbutt and local chefs proved very popular, serving fresh fish all day.
Welsh chef Angela Gray and champion fish craftsman Duncan Lucas held a variety of mouthwatering fish cookery and filleting demonstrations.
There were tours aboard the heritage trawler Jacinta, more than 80 stalls, a speed filleting competition, displays of maritime interest, craft, drum and fish cookery workshops, pavement-painting and magic shows.
The annual family fun day at Tenby Harbour on 27th June also drew thousands of visitors who enjoyed fish and shellfish cookery and preparation demonstrations with national fish craftsman Duncan Lucas and local chef Tom Hunt.
There was also a fresh fish barbecue, live jazz and dance performances, sport and games on the beach, and a new guided ‘Seashore Saunter’ around the harbour.
This year’s Celebrity Chef Fish and Shellfish Masterclass was hosted on 30th June by Valentine Warner, and proved very popular. Valentine prepared and cooked a variety of inspiring seafood dishes, and hosted an informal question-and-answer session with the audience.
Meanwhile, anglers from all over the country took part in the Stena Line Sea Angling Festival competition on the last day of Fish Week, Sunday July 4th, at Fishguard Harbour Breakwater.
The open PENNS Points catch and release competition was organised by the Welsh Ladies Team and Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers.
The first prize of £750 was scooped by Paul Wood of Cardigan, the second prize of £250 was won by Dai Davies of Neath and Andy Young of Llanelli took the third prize of £100. The competition was kindly sponsored by Stena Line.
Elsewhere, outdoor enthusiasts had a whale of a time kayaking, coasteering, foraging, rambling and much more around the Pembrokeshire coastline.
Children enjoyed many new events for 2010, including a shoresearch at Fishguard Lower Town Harbour, a Stackpole Fishy Family Bike Ride, and a Marine Fun Day also at Stackpole, with seashore scavenging, games, and marine art.
The multi-award winning Pembrokeshire Fish Week is organised by Pembrokeshire County Council.
The event is part funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013, which is financed by the EU and the Welsh Assembly Government.
