Pembrokeshire Schools achieve national sports award

Seven schools in Pembrokeshire are among 48 in Wales which have achieved a prestigious award for developing high quality physical education and school sport.

Sageston CP School, St Teilos Catholic Primary School, St Oswald’s Church in Wales VA School, Saundersfoot CP School, Tenby Junior Community School, Greenhill School and Prendergast CP School have all received the ActiveMarc Cymru quality award.

The schools were congratulated for their achievement at the recent Sport Pembrokeshire Awards.

The ActiveMarc Cymru award is given to schools which demonstrate their commitment to developing high quality physical education and school sport for all their pupils.

It has been developed between the Association for Physical Education (www.afpe.org.uk) and Sport Wales.

Councillor Huw George, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Learning and the Welsh Language congratulated staff and praised their achievements.

“This is an opportunity to celebrate and recognise success and good practice in schools,” he added.

Joanne Williams, Dragon Sport Coordinator, added: “When a school applies for the ActiveMarc Cymru Award it begins a process of self evaluation where strengths and areas for development are identified.

“This evaluation process produces a wealth of information that can be used to inform the school’s future planning for P.E. and sport.”
