Penrhyndeudraeth Special Education Centre for a New Generation of Children

GwyneddPlans to build an ambitious £12.4 million special education centre for the children of Dwyfor and Meirionnydd are progressing well.

The centre will provide a special education needs school, residential and respite care and specialist Welsh medium services for children from Gwynedd and, possibly, beyond.

A possible site has been identified in the Eryri Business Park at Penrhyndeudraeth and work is moving ahead to ensure that it is suitable.

Gwynedd Council’s Education Cabinet Member, Councillor Sian Gwenllian said:

“Finding a large enough site for this kind of facility with good access to the highway network in a convenient central location for the communities of Meirionnydd and Dwyfor has been a major challenge.

“We are hopeful that the site we have identified in Penrhyndeudraeth will meet these needs. However, before moving to the next phase, detailed technical work will need to be completed to make sure that it is suitable in every possible way.”

Over the coming weeks, a series of open days for the public will be held in Dolgellau, Pwllheli and Porthmadog. These sessions will be an opportunity to learn more about the proposals and to have your say on what is being proposed.

The meetings will be held at:

  • Dwyfor Leisure Centre, Pwllheli; 21 October between 2-7pm
  • Glan Wnion Leisure Centre, Dolgellau; 23 October between 2-7pm
  • Y Ganolfan, Porthmadog; 24 October between 2-6pm.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the information days. For more information contact the Council by e-mail: [email protected]
