Phases two and three due to start on flood risk management scheme

Work is due to start on phases two and three of the Denbigh Flood Risk Management Scheme in the Coppy Road, Henllan Street  and Tan y Scubor (Phase 2) areas of Denbigh from (today) Monday 20 September 2010. It is expected that the section of planned work in  Smithfield Road/Lenten Pool (Phase 3) will start in late October 2010.

Phase two will see highway drainage improvements in Upper Henllan Street (near Tan y Sgubor and Bryn Seion) and Coppy Road. Coppy Road will be temporarily closed to traffic for three to four weeks from the 21st October 2010. There will still be pedestrian access during this time but a diverted route will be in place for buses, cars and other vehicles. Work on Phase 2 is expected to last until January 2011.

Phase three is due to start from the end of October until May 2011. This will involve highway drainage improvements along Lon Llewelyn, Smithfield Road, Maes Mathonwy, Lenten Pool, Henllan Place and Barker’s Well Lane.

There will be disruption to road users during this work, particularly at the roundabout at Lenten Pool, but contractors will be using tunnelling techniques, which are normally used for inner city areas, in order to keep this to a minimum.

Cabinet Lead member for Environment, Councillor Sharon Frobisher, said: “We know that this work is going to cause disruption to motorists and other road users and we apologise for the inconvenience caused but I’m sure most people will agree this work is necessary to reduce the risk of flooding to homes and businesses.”
