Without a shadow of doubt Phil Cool is one of the country’s finest and most original comedians and impressionists. Holding a degree in ‘Faceology’ he is legendary for his facial contortion expertise.
A stand-up chameleon, he punctuates his show with a wealth of hilarious anecdotes, observations and routines that make him as funny and unique today as he was during the ‘80s, and you can catch him live at Theatr on Friday 8th October, 7.30pm as part of his latest UK tour.
Phil Cool is armed with a controllable rubber face. And he’s not afraid to use it! Phil’s body, too, seems to be able to defy the normal anatomical laws. With this unique weaponry, he can be anyone or anything instantaneously from international celebrity to intergalactic alien. Phil can metamorphose with ease from the Pope to Sylvester Stallone, Tina Turner to Forrest Gump, Jack Nicholson to Bugs Bunny, David Attenborough to a seahorse. Star Trek, Mr. Bean, even Pulp Fiction… Nothing escapes the Cool treatment!
Phil Cool became a household name overnight in the early 1980’s, when a career-defining performance at Jasper Carrott’s Folk Club “The Boggery” so impressed Jasper Carrott that he decided to take an active hand in furthering his career. In 1983 he appeared as a regular on the infamous O.T.T. Spin-off Saturday Stayback, and in 1984 he became the warm-up man for the satirical show Spitting Image. He was also one of the voice artists on the show, providing the voices for Boy George, Holly Johnson and Mick Jagger for the first two series.
Phil’s dextrous impressions and surreal comic sketches take us into a world where anything seems possible and the absurd seems credible. He is, without doubt, one of the most original and unique comic talents to come out of Great Britain, with many of comedies biggest names today citing him as their inspiration.
His 1980s television shows have obtained him cult status through ‘YouTube’ and the like, Phil has found himself yet more adoring fans and the verdict is obvious – his comedy is as contemporary, valid and hilarious today as it has ever been, and his 2 hour live show is bang up to date with new material, making him a truly contemporary satirical genius.
