Plaid AM outlines an argument won and a future of success

Plaid Cymru’s Rural Affairs Minister will use a key note speech at the party’s conference to outline the next steps for Wales after winning the argument over the past decade. Speaking to delegates in her home constituency Elin Jones AM will highlight how Labour politicians have converted to traditional Plaid Cymru causes such as Barnett formula reform and the delivery of further powers for Wales. However, whilst Labour has been playing catch up Plaid is already looking towards a new Wales

In her speech the Ceredigion AM will tell conference that Plaid’s ambition, and the ambition of Wales, goes beyond what has already been achieved, speaking of the huge economic potential still to be unleashed.

Elin Jones AM says:“We of course welcome those who are converts to our causes. One Wales has proved to be a fantastic delivery device for traditional Plaid campaigns such as recognising the unfairness of UK Treasury funding to Wales via the Holtham Commission. However our ambition for Wales is not confined to these arguments. Our ambition is to use the tools of democracy and self-government to change Wales for the better. That’s why the Yes vote in the referendum is so important next year, so that if Plaid Cymru is in that Parliament’s first Government then we can put new legislation in place that can change Wales’ fortunes. ”

“We have been building a nation over the last 10 years. Over the next 10 years we need to focus on building our economy. We need to lessen our economic dependence and realise the assets that we have in Wales including our greatest asset, our people.

We want our people to aspire to a better future for themselves and their families in Wales. People should have all the opportunities, to realise all their dreams here in Wales. That is our aspiration for the people of Wales. That is why our manifesto for next year’s election will be our most ambitious and our most aspirational. That is why there is so much more for us to do.”
