In response to the unemployment figures released today, the Party of Wales Shadow Economy Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth said:
“Unemployment is down and this is good news. However, what is concerning is the continued rise in economic inactivity. We have almost 40,000 more people that are not contributing to the economy now than we did a year ago, and that is a matter for concern.
“On top of this, official figures tell us that youth unemployment in Wales is still significantly higher than the UK average, while long term youth unemployment is still at crisis level, having risen by 420% since the beginning of this Labour Government’s term.
“Plaid Cymru’s work to make more apprenticeships available and our plans to allow young people to stay in skills training until the age of 19 will help young people find good quality work, while our plans to help small and medium businesses thrive is what is needed to solve this crisis.
“The Welsh Government must act with urgency to give people the work opportunities they need.”
