Plaid Cymru’s Leanne Wood has criticised the Westminster coalition following news that 250 jobs are set to be lost at Companies House which has offices in Nantgarw and Cardiff.
The Public and Commercial Services (PCS) Union said up to 100 staff will leave with immediate effect, with the remaining staff being axed over the next four years.
South Wales Central AM Leanne Wood, who chairs the PCS Cross-Party Group in the Assembly, said: “This is devastating news for staff who have already conceded to making significant changes in the last year in order to avoid compulsory redundancies.
“For the second time in less than a year, staff at Companies House face yet more uncertainty over their future. I know from my work with the PCS Union that these are skilled and high paid jobs and the South Wales economy can ill-afford to be losing roles of this calibre.
“This is yet another example of the Con/Dems in Westminster cutting our public services to the quick and I wholeheartedly condemn their short-sighted approach to tackling the budget deficit.
“Workers have every right to feel let-down and I would support any action they take to stand up to these unjustified and swingeing cuts.”
