In response to the Cardiology Services Review by Hywel Dda Health Board, the Party of Wales Shadow Health Minister Elin Jones said:
“Today’s announcement is unexpected and will be a huge blow to the people in Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire where the recommendation is to centralise cardiac service away from them. That will leave patients in Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire without local access to cardiac services that are so critical to saving lives. This will cause a huge amount of concern in these communities.
“Plaid Cymru has always maintained that we need to keep life-saving hospital service as close as possible to the patients. The announcement today makes it clear that some patients will be expected to travel up to an hour and a half before receiving initial medical intervention, and that will cause a huge amount of worry.”
