Players hit charity goals

There were goals galore, a few friendly fouls and plenty of good natured competition as Torfaen‘s mayor, Cllr Robert Jones, hosted the county borough’s first five-a-side tournament to raise money for his chosen charities.

Teams from Torfaen, Monmouthshire and various local sides entered the event which saw nine sides play a mini-league at indoor sports arena, the Football Factory Wales off Avondale Road in Cwmbran on Friday, February 19.

“It was a great day, very competitive but all the games were played with a really good spirit,” said Cllr Jones. “It was such a success that I hope this will now become an annual event and we can see the tournament grow in the future.”

The tournament was won by Torfaen IT and the event raised £285 for the mayor’s charities which are PROGRESS Prostate Cancer Support, Breast Cancer Wales and the British Heart Foundation.
